Outlook Defined
“Every cloud has a silver lining”, “Is the glass half empty or half full” just a couple of cliché’s we have all heard countless times. The way we look at things defines us as a person. It tells the world that we are what we are. We all can be either a positive force or a negative influence.
Our outlook on life affects each and every aspect of it. It is a continuous choice that we make either consciously or unconsciously. Our reaction calculated or not, has a direct influence on the outcome of every situation.
Think about the people you know. We all know those on both ends of the spectrum. Most probably lie somewhere in between but the fact remains that both extremes exist. The negative person definitely being the most disruptive or destructive. The bad apple cliché comes to mind here.
Maintaining a positive outlook has always helped every situation. Be it family, professional, friendship or social, a positive outlook is always welcomed and admired. The most amazing thing about this is that it is so easy to accomplish. Simply looking in the mirror and telling yourself that you are going to part of the solution and not part of the problem is all that it really takes.
Yes I understand this is much easier said than done in some cases. Outside influences may have an impact on one’s attitude and their ability to be positive. But that does not change the fact that the effort should be made at all times. My answer has always been my faith, my friends and my family. Without them I may or may not have gotten through some prior situations. But the fact that they were there gives me a solid foundation to build on mentally.
So when you find yourself thinking in a negative manner, take a step back to gain a different perspective. What have you got to lose? No one really enjoys that state of mind. It’s just a result of what has occurred to take them there. If you see a friend in that state, why not try and help them by asking a few simple questions? We all appreciate a little help now and then. You may get a course response but if you care about the person then that is something you should be able to handle.
Give it a shot. What do you have to lose?
